I've been reading about the association between Pagans and Yew trees (amongst others). Interesting stuff!!
Yew Tree
I planted it
the night you left,
gathered soil
sticky
wet
in both my hands
to form a mound,
pushed the seed
I planted it
the night you left,
gathered soil
sticky
wet
in both my hands
to form a mound,
pushed the seed
gently
down.
Eventually
it sprouted,
grew
towards the light.
This tree is
Yew.
Eventually
it sprouted,
grew
towards the light.
This tree is
Yew.
I love all the stories that go with yew trees - we have some fairly ancient ones in churchyards near us. I think the oldest one I've ever seen was the Fortingall Yew - just looked it up, the joys of the internet - hadn't realised it's probably Europe's oldest tree - http://www.historicbritain.com/vendor/fortingallyew.aspx
